New Hyundai i40 Tourer

This perfectly balanced car is large yet elegant and full of interesting features. It’s made for commuting in style and it is a large asset when you’re venturing for weekends away with the family.

The Tourer has an estate body style with a taller shape at the rear compared to the Saloon model. Unlike many estates, it’s free from a sense of bulkiness thanks to flowing lines and a tapered tail. The nose has a sophisticated look with complex headlights, featuring swirled daytime running lights, and a large hexagonal grille with a matt black finish. Automatic headlights will turn on as soon as visibility becomes poor.

Inside, you’ll notice a neat dashboard with minimal controls and a decent central console featuring storage areas to keep your essentials close by. Glossy black finishing on the dashboard features on the entry level grade while all others have an eye-catching chrome finish. In the winter, you will be thankful for the heated front seats and steering wheel, offered on all models up from the entry-level trim. A 553-litre boot makes the i40 Tourer ideal for families with plenty of space for lots of luggage. Fold the rear seats down and this extends to 1,719 for getting furniture or sports gear into the car with ease.

Performance and drive

The 1.7-litre diesel engines blend fuel economy with an enjoyable drive. The faster of the two, the 139bhp variant, returns up to 65mpg on the combined cycle. Choose this engine and you also have the choice between a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed automatic version. With its firm suspension, the i40 Tourer enjoys a refined, smooth performance. The addition of cruise control with a speed limiter, which is standard on SE Nav upwards, allows you to relax along the motorway. It also features Drive Mode Selection so you can choose the style of performance that suits each journey.

Technology and safety

Fitted as standard are the convenience and entertainment tools you expect of a modern saloon such as Bluetooth® connectivity and steering wheel controls. If you upgrade to the SE Nav trim, you will be greeted by a long list of equipment including a touchscreen with satellite navigation, and a rear camera for easier parking. ABS, ESP and a Vehicle Stability Management program all help the i40 Tourer to avoid skidding or slipping when driving. The cabin is dotted with seven airbags for extra protection.
