Hyundai's continued developments in the performance car sector have led to the upcoming i30 N Sport. The hot hatch is one of three new vehicles under the manufacturer's 'N' sub-division. It will enter as a direct rival to the Ford Focus ST.
Cars spotted on test runs feature a prominent rear spoiler and sharply angled headlights. It sits lower to the ground and has larger alloy wheels than the current i30 hatchback. Circular gauges and dials are visible on the instrument panel.
The i30 N will be a front-wheel drive car, propelled by a turbo charged engine. Given the performance focus of the N range, the power system is likely to be specially tuned and generate close to 250bhp.
The technology Hyundai will use draws strong inspiration from the engineering that makes World Rally Championship cars quick and agile.
The original i30 received a five-star rating when tested for safety by Euro NCAP. Equipment in the N Sport model should easily uphold this standard.
Hyundai is expected to release the i30 N Sport during 2017. Pricing, equipment levels and specifications for the hatchback have yet to be confirmed.
